Men's Counseling at Dayspring
Dayspring provides counseling for men in Alabama. We have clients that are policemen, firemen, active duty military, welders, maintenance men, pastors, doctors, truck drivers, civic leaders, and business men. As a matter of fact about ⅓ of our clients are men and they prefer our women counselors.
Older men tend to have less depression than women but have more substance abuse and antisocial behavior. Younger men, especially teenage boys, have more anger issues. Men, almost 60%, will have a traumatic event in their life. Because they find it difficult to share and resolve their trauma it can become difficult for their spouse. Just because you are a man you are not immune from stress and life.
Our counselors are here to help you with your concerns, whether it is career advice, a spouse involved in an affair, stress at the job, pornography, anxiety, difficult childhood or grieving for someone you lost. Your Dayspring counselor will tailor your treatment plan to best address your needs. If you cannot get away from the office we offer Tele-therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a great fit for men. While male and female CBT sessions might look similar, the nature of this type of therapy really speaks to the needs of most men.
CBT involves one-on-one sessions with a counselor to help people learn how to change their thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs about emotional and behavioral reactions that have caused problems in their lives. CBT is often the first choice for treating psychological disorders like PTSD and depression, as well as addiction.
CBT gives men the power to learn and adapt, which can make them feel more in control and self-empowered. This kind of counseling can be especially appealing to men for a few reasons: Men feel in Control because sessions usually have clear instructions and set goals, which can give men a sense of control and help them track their progress. Some men might find it hard to open up and feel vulnerable in a therapeutic setting, but CBT focuses on learning and problem-solving, rather than just talking about feelings. Men struggling with addiction use CBT for figuring out what triggers them or exploring the factors that led them down a path of substance abuse.
Trauma therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are specialized forms of therapy that help men process and overcome past trauma. Contrary to the idea that men should tough it out and not show emotion, trauma can be just as tough for men as it is for women.
For some men, it might be easier to admit they need help after a traumatic event than to admit they have a problem that needs attention. Dealing with trauma just means recognizing that something big has happened to them. Trauma therapy can feel like it has a clear end point. Once someone has fully processed the trauma, learned how to cope, and healed, they can stop therapy. This can be less scary for men than regular therapy, which doesn’t have a clear idea of when it’s over.
You may be curious about what to expect from Dayspring Center for Christian Counseling. Established in February 2002, we are a community mental health provider that began as a nonprofit group of local counselors. Our mission has remained unchanged throughout our journey.
Unlike some popular online counseling companies that adopt an “industrialized” approach, Dayspring remains a local organization prioritizing the well-being of our clients over profit. While our reach has expanded from Marshall County to throughout Alabama, we continue to be dedicated to providing affordable, personalized counseling services that have a hometown feel.
