Anger Management Counseling At Dayspring
At Dayspring Center for Christian Counseling, we’ll break down the psychology behind anger management and how anger management therapy works. Your counselor will empower you to comprehend your triggers and cultivate more effective coping mechanisms and skills, thereby mitigating the occurrence of harmful outbursts.
Currently, there is no clinical criteria for diagnosing problematic anger. However, certain behavioral patterns your counselor will look for in you may suggest that you have underlying anger management issues.
The 12 behaviors include; difficulty managing and expressing emotions in healthy ways, challenges in social, romantic, or work relationships due to anger-related behaviors, substance misuse or addiction, turning anger inward through self-harm or social withdrawal, impairment in work or study performance due to anger or related behaviors, difficulty in negotiating or reaching agreements with others calmly, intense and frequent anger, quickness to anger, prolonged anger feelings, aggressive behavior while intoxicated, violent, antisocial, or aggressive behavior, and incidents involving law enforcement due to anger-related behaviors.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is used by your counselor as a treatment for anger management. CBT has demonstrated positive results in diverse populations and is widely recognized as the primary treatment in anger management therapy. Dayspring likes using CBT because it underscores the significant connections between your emotional states, the thoughts and beliefs that influence them, and the ability to change the behaviors you engage in so as to avoid anger tantrums.
By learning to use the relaxation, communication, and social skills techniques that your counselor will share with you it is possible to manage anger and reduce its intensity. Adopting a more relaxed mindset, you can gain clarity on your behaviors. Applying your newfound skills for effective communication and conflict resolution can reduce anger on its own, and improving social skills to manage anger-provoking situations can prevent conflicts from escalating.
During your sessions, you’ll be expected to complete evaluations, worksheets, and participate in role-play situations. These tasks typically require six sessions to complete. In between sessions, you’ll be required to apply the skills you’ve learned and report your behaviors to your counselor. Once you’ve successfully completed the training, your counselor can provide you with a letter to that effect if your situation necessitates it.
