Strategic Family Therapy at Dayspring

Strategic Family Therapy (SFT) is a therapy approach used in Family Counseling where the whole family works together with a Dayspring counselor to figure out and fix problems. It’s different from individual therapy because it focuses on finding solutions rather than just talking about feelings. The goal is to help families make changes that make their relationships better.

SFT is a short therapy, which means it’s goal-oriented and usually done in a few sessions, six or less but scheduled closer together to make sure everyone is involved and trying. The Dayspring counselor helps your family identify problems and come up with plans to fix them. This includes teaching everyone how to communicate and solve problems, and helping family members understand each other’s points of view.

SFT is like a problem-solving puzzle that helps families find solutions to their challenges. It’s all about focusing on the present issues and encouraging family members to work together to figure out how to fix them. During a SFT session, the counselor helps your family identify the problems and come up with some possible solutions. Then, your family gets to work together to decide which solution works best for them as a whole. This collaborative process helps families communicate better and develop positive ways to deal with conflicts in the future.

One thing to keep in mind is that SFT is different from other family therapies because it’s more direct and structured. The Dayspring counselor acts as a mediator and teacher, rather than just being there to support the family’s process. Also, SFT often needs to happen more often to make sure the family gets the best treatment.

Your counselor at Dayspring is there to evaluate what issues are present and develop a treatment plan based on your family. More than one therapy will most likely be employed. Along with using SFT the counselor may also bring elements of Functional Family Therapy or Narrative Therapy into the treatment.

There are several techniques your counselor at Dayspring Center for Christian Counseling can select from when using SFT including:

1. Reframing
2. Joining
3. Redirecting
4. Structural analysis
5. Intergenerational family therapy
6. Systematic problem solving

What are the goals that your counselor is seeking to meet after using SFT with your family:

1. Increased understanding and communication
2. Increased problem-solving skills
3. Improved emotional state
4. Improved relationships
5. Support system

SFT is a powerful tool that can help families overcome a variety of challenges. It’s a proven approach that quickly identifies the root causes of problems and promotes lasting change within the family. Plus, it’s affordable, efficient, and offers long-term benefits for families.

It is possible that the counselor will identify certain family members who will benefit from individual counseling to alleviate specific concerns. Depending on the situation the counselor will see them individually or refer them to another counselor at Dayspring.

You may be curious about what to expect from Dayspring Center for Christian Counseling. Established in February 2002, we are a community mental health provider that began as a nonprofit group of local counselors. Our mission has remained unchanged throughout our journey.

Unlike some popular online counseling companies that adopt an “industrialized” approach, Dayspring remains a local organization prioritizing the well-being of our clients over profit. While our reach has expanded from Marshall County to throughout Alabama, we continue to be dedicated to providing affordable, personalized counseling services that have a hometown feel.
